A special note to trampers coming to the weekend of walks

Now I have witnessed the kauri die-back disease in its various forms we have decided that this year we will ensure that all walkers over the weekend will understand the seriousness of this devastating endemic disorder in our protected trees. Therefore we ask that everyone, prior to attending to have scrubbed their boots and shoes in a sink. (That includes the guides please note) This will also ensure any seeds will also have been washed away. Weeds are overtaking the native tree areas. Just think of that dreadful asparagus fern on the Summer Wine, Paul’s and the Goldschmidt Tracks Nobody on Mangawhai is immune from this weed I am sure. At the venue there will be scrubbing brushes and a spray for the books. We need to remember to clean in and clean out

On the Hills and Vales of Te Arai walk one can see evidence of the kauri die-back on a tree with two trunks. One trunk has the disease and the other does not. It is worth taking this delightful walk through thick bush and countryside just to see this for oneself.

Troubadour Trail – Friday 30th   The guides and helpers walked the trail this week and checked out the entertainment spots. Almost all are new as are the entertainers. This is a special outing for Mangawhai people but so many do not take advantage of the opportunity to listen to an afternoon of first class performers.
Tickets $10 at Bammas and Mangawhai Books and Gifts.

Art Trail   The artists have put up some excellent noticeable boards round town as a reminder not to forget to see and buy from the artist themselves.

Wine and Food Festival – Saturday 31st 3-7pm Olive Grove Insley Street     
Kristine Robertson who organises this event has done a great job again this year. People from all over the place ring to have a stall but she is particular about keeping the balance of product even and the focus on local producers. James RAy, the American country and western entertainer comes with an excellent reputation. There will be only 50 cowboy hats for sale at the gate so be early to get one. Novelty colourful sun umbrellas will also be for sale by a stall-holder.
Tickets $25 from Bammas and Mangawhai Books and Gifts. These will close off at midday on Saturday.        $35 at the gate.
